I tried to sleep.

My body agreed.

My brain didn’t.

So instead of resting, I got up and painted the thing that was already sitting in the room with me.

People think insomnia is “being awake.”

No.

It’s being exhausted, haunted, and fully conscious of every shadow in the room.

Sometimes the mind shuts down.

Mine just… turns the lights off and lets the monsters talk.

This painting is what it feels like to be trapped between waking and dreaming,

when you can’t move, can’t scream, and the only thing louder than the silence

is your heartbeat.

Painted in the hours when everyone else sleeps, except me and whatever this is.

🕯 “Insomnia” oil on canvas 22” by 28” (not framed) edges are painted black. Took almost 2 months to paint (im a sleepless perfectionist).
