Each of these women have their own story of why they are in such terrifying situation. The woman accused of poisoning her abusive husband on the left, trying to free herself from the ropes while the woman on the right, who is the local healer was accused of witchcraft (a woman! Healing people with herbs!? Defending herself from violence? How dare they! Blasphemy!) is crying to her spirit guides for help.
The woman in the middle, she in fact is magic. The oldest living woman in the village that everyone feared. She lives in an isolated cabin on top of the hill with the dead old tree, she is known to pray to the old Gods. She does not socialize, she does not harm nor help, she wanted to be left alone as her mother used to be the cunning woman of this very village, often producing charms for protection, love and helping crops to prosper. She was burnt at the very spot she was currently burning. After the death of her sweet mother she refused to lift a finger for the village. While she was sound asleep, a group of men barged into her cabin, tied her up, and brought her directly to the pyres where the other two women were already tied up. She was furious. How dare they, accuse us based on nothing and harm us as they please. She freed one of her hands as the vile people were lighting the pyres on fire, with a smirk on her face laced with an infinite amount of violence and with the help of the old Gods, she spread the fire back to the people. In shock, screaming, the people are trying to get away from the execution spot to save themselves but they fail. The fire spreads quickly. That day, the village has got served by Karma.
As the village is burning, the white butterflies emerge, surrounding the women. They bring peace, hope and an indication that the spirit guides were with them that day.
